Mazda MX-5 Sport Graphite

Following on from the earlier Sport Black edition, Sport Graphite was a UK special edition for the 2013 model year. Limited to 500 examples and available with 1.8 or 2.0 engines, but only as a coupe RHT as there is no soft top option.  The Sport Graphite introduces new exterior paint colours and features some unique Meteor Grey styling touches.

The new colours are Aquatic Blue and Zeal Red, with a third colour option of Aluminium Silver.  I was expecting there to be a Meteor Grey option but I guess that wouldn't really have worked with the contrasting grey roof.  Aquatic Blue has been used on other models in the Mazda range, but it works really well on the MX-5, a bright blue has been missing from the range ever since Winning Blue was phased out, it's great to see one back.  Zeal Red is a new colour that was first seen on the new CX-5 model, it's similar to Velocity Red but slightly darker.

The signature features of this model are the Meteor Grey retractable hardtop, Meteor Grey door mirrors, Meteor Grey third brakelight cover, and 17" alloy wheels in a dark gunmetal finish. Sport Graphite inherits the TomTom satellite navigation system as used on the Sport Tech Nav trim and the earlier Venture edition. This 5.8" full colour touchscreen unit also comes with integrated Bluetooth for handsfree calls.

The 2.0 model is based on the Sport Tech Nav so benefits from Bilstein suspension and the Super LSD as standard equipment. Both models get front foglights, front strut brace, gloss grey interior trim pieces, black headlight trim, black heated leather seats, air conditioning, and of course no special edition is complete without an exterior badge. Each model also had an interior sticker badge above the hazard light switch indicating the model number out of the 500 produced. Carpet mats with a special grey piping were available as an additional cost option. Sport Graphite was priced at £20,995 for the 1.8 and £22,995 for the 2.0, an £800 saving against the equivalent Sport Tech Nav model.

To help promote this edition Mazda UK teamed up with realist artist Paul Cadden to produce a sketch of the car using graphite. Each new owner was presented with a limited numbered & signed print with the original drawing given away as a competition prize via Mazda UK's website.

Let's take look at the brochure and see the full details.
