Dewi's car is a 2011 2.0 Sport Black special edition model finished in Velocity Red Mica. After previously owning a 1.8 Miyako edition and taking it on two European roadtrips; Dewi was looking for more power and the higher spec of the Sport model. The Sport Black MX-5 is based on the Sport Tech grade and so comes with the six speed transmission, Bilstein suspension, and the Super LSD as standard. Sport Black is characterised by a contrasting colour scheme with the door mirrors, retractable hardtop, and wheels being black. There were 500 of these models available in the UK, this one is number 239 of 500.
Not long after getting the car home it was up on jacks having the standard road springs replaced with the Mazda Eibach blue lowering springs. These springs bring the ride height down to what it should be to begin with and help with looks and handling. The brake calipers were given a coat of gold paint which really goes nicely with the velocity red body. Dewi has also cleaned up the underside and given the car a comprehensive treatment with Dinitrol rust prevention products including wax in the bodyshell cavities. This is a messy job but will help ensure the car survives many harsh UK winters and is well worth doing.
Future plans for the car include a full wheel alignment setup, some stronger anti-roll bars, and a performance muffler to give a car a sportier sound.
