Guy's Brilliant Black NC

Guy's car is a 2006 model in Brilliant Black from Sydney, Australia. When I first saw this MX-5 I was immediately reminded of Active's demo car and how good a modified black roadster can look.

The car has been fitted with a selection of well chosen styling parts to stand out from the rest. The carbon fibre lip by Nopro gives the front end an aggressive look enhanced by the IL Motorsport headlight trim and custom black headlight inner. The car's carbon fibre side skirts are part of Burnout's KD-X kit and work well with the front lip. IL Motorsport clear side repeaters, Mazda accessory spoiler, rear mudguards, and custom blackout tail lights have also been fitted.

The wheels on the car are 17" x 8 Enkei RP-F1 with an offset of 45 and fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport 3 225/45/17 tyres. Guy has recently changed the Enkeis to a set of 17" BBS LM with black centres and a staggered fitment of 8J front and 9J rear. Both sets of wheels look great on the MX-5.

Inside we find the driver's seat has been replaced with a Sparco Evo 2 bucket seat, some trim pieces from IL Motorsport, additional leather trim pieces by Liberal, and a really smart set of gauge faces by Black Cat Custom which were made to Guy's personal design. A Nexus 7 android tablet has been installed to provide real time OBD2 data readouts as well as navigation, bluetooth, and digital music functionality.

Since Guy uses the car on trackdays, the stock suspension has been replaced with Öhlins DFV adjustable coilovers along with an upgraded rear sway bar from Whiteline. Front and rear braces from Okuyama Carbing help improve stability and a full set of CarboTech XP8 brake pads improve stopping power. The cold air intake by AEM is just visible behind the front grille, and a RoadsterSport muffler from Goodwin Racing gives the car a sportier sound.
