Just like with previous Roadster generations, Mazda has planned a range of optional extras for the new car. Here are the initial genuine Mazda accessories for the new MX-5, I am sure the range will be expanded in due course. The availability of parts will almost certainly differ between markets.
Some accessories, such as the optional aero kit, will be sold using the Mazdaspeed branding in Japan. The aero kit will also be known as the Cup or Club kit depending on the market. The kit was initially only available in Brilliant Black with the rear spoiler also available in body colour. For 2018 the full aero kit became available to order in body colour.
Other exterior optional parts include the bright silver windscreen surround, this is similar to the NC's chrome trim piece. Then there are matching bright silver covers for the door mirrors and roll bar trim. The door mirrors can also feature a blue tinted anti-glare glass that has a hydrophilic coating which helps to keep the glass clear of water droplets. The side marker lights required in some markets are not used in the UK, here they will come fitted with blanks as standard, but clear lenses are available to fit if desired.
The interior gets a range of genuine Italian Alcantara trim pieces with red stitch for the doors, dashboard, centre armrest, and gaiters. If you weren't a fan of the colourful doors, you can swap out the body colour trim for a more subtle gloss black piece.
There are some bright silver trim pieces to add some highlights to the interior around the air vents, and the optional cup holders. A larger windblocker that replaces the small standard part was available, featuring the Roadster logo. Aluminium pedal covers, luxury carpet mats, and blue or white welcome LED illumination can be added to finish off the interior dress-up.
Performance upgrades focus on handling and include a set of Mazdaspeed braces, a Brembo upgrade for the front brakes, and lightweight 17" BBS forged wheels. The standard brake calipers can be painted red, blue, or gold as an option.
As with the earlier cars, there is no underbody rust protection applied at the factory. An anti-corrosion coating using Noxudol products for the chassis was available in Japan as an optional extra costing around £200. If history is anything to go by, it is highly recommended to have similar work carried out in the UK.
