UK MX-5 Model Guide

Here you'll find a breakdown of each variant of fourth generation MX-5 that was available in the UK. The range is quite complicated with nine model choices along with a few optional extras available at launch. Next to each model's picture I've listed some of their distinguishing features to help with identification and comparison.

Initially there were five 1.5 engined cars and four 2.0 models. All cars have the manual 6-speed transmission with no automatic option at launch. As with the NC, the limited slip differential is only fitted to the 2.0 cars. The sandy tan leather interior upgrade from the USA's Launch Edition was available as a cost option on both the 1.5 and 2.0 Sport Nav.

All cars come with Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS), Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD), Tyre Pressure Monitoring (TPMS), Thatcham Category 1 alarm with immobiliser, front and side airbags, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), front and side airbags, and a Traction Control System (TCS) as standard.

Sport spec models feature rear parking sensors, Adaptive Front lighting System (AFS), and the Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) which uses a camera mounted on the inside of the windscreen. The top model's optional "Safety Pack" includes the additional i-ACTIVSENSE features of High Beam Control (HBC), Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM), and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA).

Recaro seats with leather and alcantara trim are available in some European markets. For Germany they are part of a €2000 Sport Pack, in Belgium the seats were standard on the top Sport model. The seats were included with the UK's Sport Recaro and RF Launch special editions.

The Retractable Fastback (RF) model is due to go on sale later in the year for delivery in 2017. The Sport grade was phased out fairly early on to be replaced by the Sport Nav, effectively giving all top spec cars the navigation system.

2019 saw several revisions to the range with the most notable being the introduction of a more powerful 2.0 engine. These models were given a "+" after their respective trim levels.
