The MX-5 Athletic was a 2009 special edition for the Belgian market. This edition was launched to celebrate Olympic silver medalist Olivia Borlée becoming a Mazda brand ambassador. The Athletic edition is notable for being one of only a few models to include the Recaro seats as standard.
MX-5 Athletic was based on the Active trim level and only available with the 1.8 engine. Customers could have either the soft top or coupe version in a choice of Brilliant Black, Aluminum Metallic or Metropolitan Grey. Also included as standard were chrome rollbar trims, climate control air conditioning, and the BOSE stereo.
Altogether the additional trim represented a 2000 Euro saving.
