As with the NC models, the aftermarket provides us with a good variety of intake setups. These parts are designed to improve airflow to the engine, allowing the car to breathe easier. They will also adjust the power and torque curves, sometimes providing a few extra peak horsepower. To get the most benefit from a new high flow intake it is worth considering an engine remap.
An aftermarket intake will almost certainly change how the car sounds under throttle. Increasing the intake noise can make for a more fun experience behind the wheel. This is something Mazda themselves agree with and encourage through use of their Induction Sound Enhancer (ISE) device. The tube arrangement attaches to the intake and pipes tuned noise through to the cabin. The ISE was standard on some models and can be fitted as an optional accessory.
If your budget doesn't stretch to a complete replacement airbox, there are also high flow panel filters, and silicon intake elbows available for considerably less cost. These are an easy swap for the original parts.
