In a similar way to how they celebrated the 10th anniversary, Mazda released a 2010 special edition to mark their roadster's 20th birthday. The home market version of the 20th Anniversary (20AE) was a little different to the one we saw in the UK.
These Japan-only models were based on the range topping 6-speed RS model soft top and 6-speed automatic VS coupe. It was used to introduce the new Crystal White Pearl mica colour which is a bright white mixed with a multicoloured mica mineral flake. I've tried to photograph it below, these mica paints really look great in the sunshine.
This JDM 20AE was only available in white and featured Recaro seats as standard. The seats were heated red leather with black alcantara inserts. The inner door panels were given matching red leather trim. The 20AE was available as a soft top or coupe, and also has a unique front wing badge and numbered plate on the interior. The red and white colour scheme is very Japanese, I'm pretty sure Honda did something similar with their S2000, it's a great looking combination.
One roadster enthusiast in Japan who bought a new car to celebrate 20 years of the Roadster went around various meets collecting signatures of Roadster fans written on the car itself. You can read that story here.
