Mazda Roadster Black Tuned

The Mazda Roadster Black Tuned was a special edition for Japan released in late 2011. The car was based on either the six-speed manual RS coupe or the 6-speed automatic VS coupe, there was no option for the soft top. The Black Tuned model is notable for introducing two exclusive new colours to the NC range. Spirited Green Metallic was an unmistakable vivid green and Velocity Red Mica was a more subtle shade of red, both colours gave the car a premium look. Crystal White Pearl Mica was the third colour option.

Black Tuned was the first NC MX-5 model to introduce the contrasting exterior colour scheme that would go on to be used on future models. The roof, door mirrors, roll bar covers, foglight bezels, and front grille trim were painted Brilliant Black and the 17" alloy wheels were given a gunmetal finish.

Inside the black theme continued with heated black leather seats with contrast sand coloured stitching, matching black door panel trim also with sand stitching, black leather steering wheel with sand stitching, piano black switch bezels, and black leather handbrake with sand stitching. Armrest padding on the doors and centre console from the VS coupe was added to the RS based model, and the Bose sound system with 6-disc changer and seven speakers was also included.
A concept car based on the Black Tuned was shown at the 2012 Tokyo Auto Salon. This version featured new 17" BBS black alloy wheels, behind which sat Brembo 4-pot brakes at the front finished in gold paint.  Inside the concept was fitted with carbon kevlar Recaro seats (similar to the NA RS-Ltd) covered in green leather and black alcantara. The concept also featured some green accents on the interior, green stitching on the steering wheel, and a black windscreen surround.
