The NR-A Racing Spec was shown at the 2016 Tokyo Auto Salon in association with MZ Racing. The car is based on the standard 1.5 NR-A model and came fitted with the full range of accessories together with gunmetal 16" wheels, Bridgestone Potenza tyres, and Endless brakes. The additional safety parts such as the rollcage, seats, harnesses, and tow hooks, are required for the car to compete in the Japanese NR-A Party Race series.
The livery is a colour variation of that seen on the MX-5 Global Cup race car which was also on display at the Salon. Whereas the Global Cup cars are specially built for racing, the NR-A is aimed more at the amateur track enthusiast and keeping entry costs as low as possible.
