Mazda MX-5 Sport

The Mazda MX-5 Sport was a special edition exclusive to the UK market from late 1998 to early 1999. This car was offered in two distinct versions said to number 300 each (exact numbers are unknown). The Classic Red had a black leather interior with walnut effect interior trim. The Twilight Blue version had a blue/black two-tone interior similar to the 10th Anniversary and is believed to be less common than the red model.

In my opinion the red and blue Sport models are amongst the most desirable special editions. They were the top of the range MX-5 with a generous specification not seen since. These cars were based on the 5-speed Torsen LSD equipped 1.8iS model. As well as all the features of the iS, they came with a colour coded hardtop, rear spoiler, rear mudguards, side skirts, front lip spoiler, front foglights with unique trim surround, air conditioning, front wing "Sport" badges, leather seats, and leather door panels.

I was lucky enough to own a red Sport as my second MX-5 and thoroughly enjoyed owning and modifying it. I really should get around to writing a post on this car.
