The MX-5 RF Ignition was a limited edition model for the German market. It is the left-hand drive equivalent of the UK's RF Launch Edition. The Ignition model was based on the highest trim level 2.0 with 6-speed manual gearbox and was limited to just 250 cars. Colour choices were Soul Red, Machine Grey, or Ceramic metallic. The name comes from being the start of the RF range of MX-5.
The specification of the Ignition is largely the same as the UK Launch model. It features the 17" BBS alloy wheels, alcantara interior trim, piano black door mirrors, piano black roof panel, and Recaro seats, but does not include the gloss black rear spoiler seen on the UK's model.
Ignition was sold via an online reservation website with prospective buyers needing a 1000 Euro deposit due to anticipated high demand and the limited availability. Prices start at 35,990 Euro.
For the Italian market a limited run of 50 RF models of the same specification were on offer. These were badged as the "RF Limited Edition" with a choice of Soul Red or Machine Grey. The cars came with an exclusive personalised work by Rome based artist Tommaso Spazzini Villa aka Tindar. Each indivudual artwork was based on the RF owner's unique fingerprints to show the bond between car and driver.
