The first UK special edition for 2018 is a re-work of 2007's Z-Sport model.
This new Z-Sport edition is based on a 2.0 litre 6-speed manual Sport Nav. The car's specification features a unique colour combination however there is no additional equipment above the standard car. The exterior is finished in Machine Grey which was previously only available on the retractable fastback models.
The key distinguishing feature of this model is the new 'Dark Cherry' fabric roof. It's nice to see a bit of fresh colour being injected into the MX-5 range.
Z-Sport is actually a variation on the Japanese Red Top model from last year which has the same roof but was offered in a range of body colours making for some interesting combinations.
Red Top used the auburn interior from the RF, but that has been swapped here for the sand leather interior which was an option back when the ND generation first went on sale. I'm not totally sold on the grey/sand/cherry colour combination though I can't deny it does stand out from others.
The exterior look is finished with a new design of 17" BBS alloy wheel, again in black just like the RF Launch Edition and the USA's Club model wheels. It looks very similar to the BBS CS-4 aftermarket alloy wheel.
Inside, the car comes with special floor mats featuring the Z-Sport branding, Z-Sport sill plates, and a numbered badge on the dashboard. The Z-Sport model is limited to 300 cars and went on sale March 2018 priced at £25,595.
