The MX-5 R-Sport was a special edition released for the UK market in April 2020. This edition was based on the 1.5 Sport model and combines a unique interior colour with an alloy wheel upgrade. Priced at £27,700, a £1,050 premium over the equivalent standard model, production was limited to just 150 examples.
The only colour available was the new Polymetal Grey metallic, this was complemented by a unique grey soft top roof with contrasting piano black door mirrors. Mazda's grey theme continues with the alloy wheels which were finished in a shade of metallic gunmetal.
The wheels are 16" RAYS ZE40 manufactured from forged aluminium for strength and reduced weight. Thee 10-spoke design features the engraved text "Made in Japan" on the wheel rim although they do not appear to carry the Volk Racing branding. A similar design was previously seen on Drop-Head concept car from 2019. These wheels are the clear highlight of the R-Sport and justify the higher asking price.
The interior includes heated burgundy Nappa leather seats with contrasting silver stitching. Burgundy coloured vinyl is used throughout the dash and door trim panels also with silver stitching. The leather trimmed steering wheel, gear knob, and hand brake all feature silver stitching to complete the interior's look.
